About Orthodontics
Most people seek orthodontic treatment to achieve an esthetically pleasing, beautful smile. If you are not completely happy with your smile, and perhaps even self-conscious about your teeth, orthodontic treatment with either braces or aligners can give you a smile you can be proud to show off!
Orthodontics is more than just straightening teeth, however. Orthodontics can not only align the teeth for esthetics, but can also get the teeth to fit together properly for proper function and harmony with the facial muscles and jaw joints. This translates to healthier teeth, gums, and jaw joints for the rest of your life. We want you to feel comfortable in our office throughout your treatment, and our goal is to make sure you receive the highest quality care available, in a fun, relaxing environment.
How Does Orthodontic Treatment Work?
Traditionally, braces are thought of as metal attachments on your teeth. Now, braces can be made of metal or ceramic. In addition, orthodontic treatment can now be accomplished with removable, plastic aligners. Teeth are moved by placing constant light forces on the teeth, causing specialized cells within the tooth socket to remodel the bone surrounding the teeth, allowing the teeth to gradually move through the bone.
Braces are now smaller, more esthetic and more comfortable than ever. You have the choice between metal brackets, clear brackets, or invisible aligners. If you like, you can also have us place colors on the metal and clear brackets. WE use the latest, space-age wires which allow the teeth to move faster and more comfortably than ever. Today, any age is a great age for orthodontics!
How Long Will My Treatment Take?
Because there are so many factors that determine treatment time, every case is different, but typically treatment lasts between one and three years. Factors that can affect treatment time include age, patient compliance and initial treatment severity. Largely, the success of your treatment depends on you! If you are compliant with Dr. Talbot's recommendations such as elastic wear, brushing, attending appointments and being careful not to break your braces, your treatment will be faster and more successful.
Before we begin your treatment, Dr. Talbot will discuss your options with you and give you an estimate of your treatment time. Please contact our office to schdule a complementary consultation.
